Today Background is dedicated to!!! - The REDLINE FLITE crank, every kids desire back in the early 80's, and was probably the coolest bike part to own (ever), all the to top Pro's and Freestylers had em and it just made your bike look the part, even if you had a piece of crap! Just put a flite crank on it and you were the 'Don!!! I remember the weekend trips to Super Bike in Ilford, where everyone would drool at them in the glass cabinet and the first time you got to see and touch one in the flesh (on a bike), was even more of a big deal.
I got my first and only Flite in 97 when I got back into riding, it was the first thing I did to the new bike I got before I even rode the thing. It felt like a major achievement to finally have one, But! after the chain-wheel bolt snapped while at a set of traffic lights my confidence in the flite faded and I soon switched to Profile. But the childhood memories of the Redline Flite crank still remain the sam

Todays Old Skool BMX Mag background is dedicated to that 70's & 80's classic.
The Power Slide.
Yes there was once a time when skidding was viewed as a cool trick! But you had to do it with style!

Now the Origins lay in Motocross - hanging the inside leg out to gain stability as you powered through turns.
But when I think of BMX power slides It's always of classic shots of riders like RL Osborn, Harry Leary and Stu Thomsen, who added that speedway influence of laying the bike as flat as possible with the bars turned (pure Style).
And in races it was always a nice little move used to take the opposition out hehe, if you got a bad start. Pedal as fast as you can, aim at the tightest line on the berm, break late, leg out turn them bars and lay it flat and when the dust settled you maybe came out in the lead, and got a kicking at the finish line from your mates. But hey if it looked good, that's all that mattered.

Got some old BMX Action bike and BMX Plus mags floating around, also some RAD Mags, think they are still at my mum and dads though! Remember a mate of mine getting a centre spread in RAD back in the day, he was treated like a superstar by the groms.

Lets get the ball rolling - Jan & Feb 1983 BMX Action (along with a few a can't remember), were the very first magazines I ever saw. I was in the Basketball team and we were in the mini bus on our way to a game, when Richard Chick pulled out about 5 copies of BMX Action, everyone went mad looking though them. The closest thing any of us had come to seeing a BMX only mag was the moody Raleigh burner brochures you got from Halfords, so this was the coolest thing ever It had RL and Buff on the front cover doing a trick that would predate the cherry picker (remember that).
As the emergence of BMX in the Uk also coincided with the Football casual clothing street culture you either stole traded or had parents that didn't mind spending hard cash on you to get this stuff. I had a few Fila T's and a track top, and at some point I remember trading the metal Fila tag and badge off my track top for about 10 copies of BMXA and an autographed photo of Stu Thompsen - What a bargin!!!!

Old Skool haro appreciation!

A Haro 2 finger plastic break lever was the first BMX part I ever brought, months before I even got my bike. It flexed when you pulled the break and didn't work, but it was a Haro part and I loved it.
